Yucatan Center for Scientific Research

The Yucatan Center for Scientific Research (Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán A.C., or CICY) was founded in 1979. It is a public research institution coordinated by the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT). CICY´s mission is to generate scientific and technological knowledge in the areas of plant biochemistry and molecular biology, agricultural biotechnology, natural resources, materials science, water sciences, and renewable energy in order to contribute to sustainable development.

Our Graduate Studies program comprises both M.S. and a Ph.D. programs in our fields of research interests.

CICY is also highly committed to outreach activities, often in collaboration with other national or foreign academic institutions or through interactions with organizations form the private or social sectors.

CICY has built up a significant human and physical infrastructure to generate new knowledge and to provide solutions, improvements, and new technologies in its key research areas. Its main programs are carried out at four research Units located in Mérida,Yucatán and one research Unit in Cancún, Quintana Roo. Water Science Unit
