- Plant genetic improvement through traditional and biotechnological tools, with special emphasis in the in vitro androgenesis and embryogenesis of tropical fruits and ornamentals
- Plant genomics and cytogenetics
- Cellular and molecular basis of adaptation of plants to biotic and abiotic stress with a particular interest on oxidative stress.

- Study of embryogenesis in Musa acuminata Colla: a functional genomic and cytogenetic approach.
